Online Health and Safety Courses

Health and safety training is important for everyone on site to ensure hazards are identified and to help minimise the risk of accidents happening. By its very nature, construction is a dangerous job, so effective training is important to keep everyone safe.

From the apprentice to the site manager, everybody needs to take responsibility for ensuring the best safety standards are adhered to. We provide a wide range of courses that are suitable for all levels of construction workers helping them progress in their career.

In these times, we all face restrictions and obstacles as a result of Coronavirus (COVID-19), but that shouldn’t mean your training programme for your employees is disrupted. We offer nationwide online courses which can be accessed from anywhere, all you need is an internet based device such as a computer or tablet, microphone, camera and internet access.

Our CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) health and safety courses are available online to allow delegates to undertake training from anywhere in the country in a safe and socially distanced way. These online health and safety courses are provided over Zoom via live video with an experienced trainer and other delegates on the course, providing a productive learning environment.

Training will go ahead exactly as it would in person with discussions, quizzes and activities still taking place and interaction is greatly encouraged between delegates.

Those who sign up for one of our construction courses online will be sent a link to join the online session at a dedicated time shortly before the course commences, this provides the delegate the chance to ask the trainer any technical questions they may have prior to beginning the course. All of our trainers either currently work in or have previously worked in the construction industry for many years, so have a full understanding of the potential challenges and demands on site – approaching the course material in a realistic and accessible way.

CITB Health and Safety Awareness

The CITB Health and Safety Awareness course is aimed at those who are new to the construction industry. The course provides participants with a 1 day introductory course to health and safety. The course covers the most common health and safety issues on site and helps to enable operatives to identify hazards.

This online health and safety course will cover the responsibilities workers have for their own safety and the safety of others on site, as well as what the typical hazards on a construction site are and how they can be managed. The course will cover legal requirements and liabilities, working at height, manual handling, fire prevention, work equipment and occupational health.

The course is designed to be interactive and is taught through case studies, classroom discussion, group work and individual or group presentations. Delegates will be assessed through this work and a multiple-choice test.

Upon completion, delegates will receive the CITB Site Safety Plus certificate.

CITB SMSTS

The Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is ideal for anyone who is or will be overseeing other workers on site, making it an ideal course for site managers and supervisors. The course takes place over 5 days, and includes class discussions, group work and looking at case studies, finishing with an exam at the end of the 5 days training.

Delegates are encouraged to contribute to discussions and be fully interactive with the course, they are also required to do some additional reading and research outside of the training day to gain a full understanding and knowledge of everything discussed during the course. Delegates will be assessed throughout the duration of the course and will be required to undertake 4 core exercises as well as an exam at the end of the 5 days.

These online health and safety courses cover CDM regulations, working in confined spaces, scaffolding, electricity, demolition, groundworks and working at height as well as various other topics. The course will also cover all the relevant legislation that applies to carrying out these tasks in a safe and legal way.

Upon competition of the course, delegates will receive their CITB SMSTS certificate of qualification, which is valid for 5 years.

CITB SMSTS Refresher

Our CITB SMSTS Refresher course is for aimed at those who have already successfully completed the SMSTS course and gained their 5 year qualification, but need to complete a refresher course after 5 years to keep the certificate valid and ensure their knowledge of the latest legislation is up to date.

The refresher course takes place across 2 days and covers any legislation changes, risk assessments, method statements, behavioural safety, occupational health and the current focus of the HSE.

To qualify for this course, delegates will need to have an existing SMSTS certificate that has not yet expired. If it has been over 5 years since they took the course and their certificate has expired, they will be unable to sit the refresher course and will need to take the full SMSTS course again.

To ensure delegates can renew their SMSTS certificate prior to expiry, it is possible to book onto our nationwide online courses to attend the course remotely and keep qualifications up to date. We provide both online and in person training for this course to provide maximum flexibility.

If sitting the course online, delegates will still be provided with the full qualification and access to the information they would have in person, but in the safety of their own home or Covid-secure workplace.

CITB SSSTS Training Courses

The Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) is designed to be taken by site supervisors and consists of legislation and the legal responsibility they have to employees, such as the health and safety, welfare and environment for workers as well as providing them the fundamental knowledge needed to supervise a construction site safely.

The SSSTS online health and safety course takes place over 2 days via Zoom and uses classroom discussions, group work and individual or group presentations to demonstrate what has been learned throughout the course.

It covers legislation around health and safety, common issues on site, supervising occupational health, behavioural safety and how to present and provide toolbox talks to staff to keep them up to date on health and safety.

The course is marked on class work as well as via a multiple choice test at the end to evaluate what knowledge has been gained.

Tests are still able to go ahead with our online health and safety courses, they are invigilated by the trainer who will be able to view the delegate on camera, and the test is carried out via a secure, online software form. Please feel assured that by sitting one of our courses online, you will not be missing out on the experience of an interactive and informative course. Nothing is missed out by taking one of our nationwide online courses instead of in person.

Upon completion, delegates will be provided with a CITB SSSTS certificate which is valid for 5 years.

CITB SSSTS Refresher

Our CITB SSSTS refresher course is designed for those that have already taken the full SSSTS course and their certificate is nearing expiry.

This 1 day refresher course will extend your certificate for another 5 years, but cannot be taken if your SSSTS certificate has already expired. If this is the case, you will need to re-sit the 2 day SSSTS course again.

The course will review and update on the latest legislation changes and how health and safety law is structured. The course also reiterates the need for method statements and how the supervisory role fits managers in controlling site safety.

Harness User

For those working at height, it is important that safety precautions are in place so that fall protection equipment can be used correctly and protect individuals from injury or death. Among our construction courses online we provide a half day course for harness users.

Both safety harnesses and lanyards are advised to be used to help prevent a fall or mitigate the distance and consequence of a fall. The lanyard connects to the harness to create a secure anchor point to prevent an individual falling from height.

The course covers how to select the correct personal fall protection equipment as well as how to carry out an efficient pre-use inspection to ensure everything is in a safe and usable condition prior to use. The course also covers the safe use of a harness, how to assess the workplace to determine the correct equipment needed and ensures that suitable and sufficient inspections are undertaken on the relevant equipment required to be used. Knowing how to work safely at height and identifying the right fall protection equipment is paramount for safe working at height.

Mental Health First Aid Courses

Mental health is an increasing focus within the construction industry, where there are high levels of mental health issues among the workforce. 26% of workers in the construction industry are suffering from work-related stress, depression or anxiety and is the second highest health problem behind musculoskeletal disorders according to the HSE.

Mental health issues in the construction industry have seen a steady increase over recent years and awareness of mental health has become higher than it ever was. Our mental health first aid courses provide delegates with the training to identify and understand symptoms of mental ill health, and how to support someone dealing with a mental health issue.

Alan F

Great teacher, would recommend his courses and will come back to him in future.

Paul was a very good teacher. Easy to understand and helped me when needed. I felt comfortable in his classroom and confident to ask questions. When friends ask, I will recommend.

Ray H

Very knowledgable and passionate tutor

When arriving, I was nervous and unsure of my abilities. The trainer made me feel at ease as soon as I came in. If I needed to ask questions I did, and they were answered clearly and in a way I understood. The practical work was challenging but my trainer guided me through and made it as interesting as possible. Will definitely be recommending this company.
