So what areas do we cover? Well, we provide courses in general health and safety as well as IPAF, PASMA, first aid, working at height, CITB, SMSTS, and SSSTS training. As well as those, we offer the HSA course that will give you one half of the qualification needed for your CSCS Green Card. We also offer face fit testing for those who need it.
Our courses are all fully endorsed by the relevant governing bodies, and once completed they are valid for up to 5 years. Is your certificate coming up for renewal? Then you’ll be able to take a refresher course to retain it.
Health and Safety Training
Maintaining a safe working environment is really important on a construction site, which is where our courses come in. Most are only ½ a day long, so you will be able to head back to your site as quickly as possible. However, if you have a full day to spare, you could combine two courses to give you a day of elite health and safety training. Whichever option you choose, we’ll be there to help.
Our Hemel Hempstead health and safety courses cover a wide range of areas such as manual handling, harness user and inspection, identifying and reducing exposure to asbestos, abrasive wheels, petrol drive cut off saws, and Cat and Genny training. This wealth of options has made us the number one choice for many construction companies and professionals in the area.
A workplace accident may be a rare occurrence, but it’s important to know what to do if one were to happen. With power tools, working at height and moving vehicles being a constant risk, it’s even more essential if you are working on a construction site. We’re one of the leading providers of first aid courses in Hemel Hempstead, and our training gives delegates the skills they need to assess, triage and treat people in the safest possible way.
Our goal is to deliver first aid training that is as well-rounded and comprehensive as possible, covering as many eventualities as possible. Our courses cover emergency first aid, first aid at work and mental health first aid. The latter is becoming more and more important in the workplace, and is even more essential in a potentially high-pressure, stressful location like a construction site.
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) equips construction professionals with the knowledge to identify potential hazards on site, as well as helping them to understand the legislation covering safety in the workplace.
As an independent training provider, we are able to be flexible when it comes to delivering Hemel Hempstead CITB courses. This means that you can take yours at your nearest training centre, on-site or online.
Our online CITB training is held over Zoom, and confirmed delegates will be given a link to join the online session at a pre-agreed time. All that’s needed is access to the internet, a camera and a microphone. You can’t get more convenient than that! The online test at the end of the course will be observed by an independent invigilator via webcam, allowing the whole thing to be completed remotely. Once a delegate gains their certification, it is valid for 5 years.
The Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is a CITB accredited course aimed at those holding a senior position on construction sites, such as supervisors, managers and directors. The course takes 5 days to complete and is delivered through case studies, class discussions and group work.
Our course covers all of the current UK legislation, so delegates will be brought completely up to date. They will also be told how to manage and monitor safety on site. After successfully completing the course, delegates will receive a CITB Site Safety certificate. This is valid for 5 years – after which a refresher course can be taken before your certification expires to make sure that their knowledge is current.
The Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) is for construction site supervisors. This course covers the legal responsibility they have to manage health and safety in the workplace, as well as welfare and environment for the members of their teams. The course is presented in an interactive format that’s easy for anyone to follow.
Our SSSTS courses are 2 days long, allowing our course leaders to cover a lot of information. They include class discussions along with individual or group presentations, allowing you to learn from others as well as your course leader. These are assessed and then combined with a score from a multiple-choice test taken by the delegate at the end of the course. Successful completion of a course will lead to the CITB Site Survey certificate. This is valid for 5 years, and a refresher course can be taken at the end of that time, before it expires, to renew it.
CSCS Green Card Certification
For those looking to obtain a CSCS green card, we can help you to complete the first part of the necessary training. We offer the HSA course, which is 1 day long. If a delegate completes this successfully, they will need to go on and take an environmental touch screen test to receive the card. Many employers require a CSCS card, and it’s now a key requirement for many positions within the construction industry. It shows that you have a solid understanding of the health and safety practices required on a site, and an employer will know that you have a basic level of knowledge when you start your role, reducing the amount of time they have to spend bringing you up to speed.
Work at Height Courses
If someone is going to be working at a height, even if at ground level near an excavation, they are at a higher risk of suffering a workplace accident. Whether they are using scaffolding, ladders, harnesses, platforms and powered access equipment, they will need to know how to do so safely. They will also need to be able to carry out risk assessments and use PPE correctly. Luckily for those delegates, we are here to give them the knowledge and practical skills they need to work at height with no issues.
Our range of courses include harness use, harness inspection, steps, ladders, harness and leading edge. We’ll also teach delegates how to identify the hazards that can come with working at height, helping them to prevent accidents before they happen.
Our working at height training courses in Hemel Hempstead are all half a day in length. They can be taken at your nearest training centre, or we can come to you if that’s more convenient. Providing we can work easily on your site, you will be able to learn in familiar surroundings.
Face Fit Testing
Construction sites are often full of fumes and fine particles such as dust, both of which can damage someone’s respiratory health in both the long and short term. That’s where we come in. Our face fit testing ensures that a mask provides a complete seal, stopping an individual from inhaling anything harmful.
So how does a face fit test work? At the start of the test, a delegate will be asked to taste a bitter solution. Once they have done this, they will work their way through a number of exercises while wearing a mask. This is to see if it moves. The test is successfully completed when a delegate has worked their way through the exercises without having tasted any more of the bitter solution. After this, it is recommended that a face fit test be carried out every 2 years. This is the easiest and most effective way to guarantee prolonged respiratory protection.
The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) is the number one accrediting body and authority for mobile elevated work platforms. These are more commonly known as ‘MEWPs’ to those in the industry. Over 100,000 people a year take an IPAF training course, which makes them one of the most popular health and safety courses in the UK. We are an accredited IPAF training centre, and we are able to provide a wide range of courses for delegates in Hemel Hempstead. Our courses are aimed at both operators and demonstrators, with both having a number of options to choose from. These courses range in length from half day to 1 day, and are all taught by leading experts in the field.
The Prefabricated Access Supplier’s and Manufacturers’ Association (PASMA) is the number one accrediting body for mobile access towers. You’ll be pleased to know that we are an accredited PASMA training centre, allowing us to provide a high level of training. When you learn with us, you can take courses on towers for users, low level access, towers on stairs, towers with cantilevers, working at height, towers for managers and towers for bridging. Whichever one you choose, you can look forward to tuition that’s delivered with your needs in mind.
Our team of advisors know all there is to know about PASMA training, and will be able to point you in the direction of the most appropriate course after talking to you.
