Health and Safety Courses Oxford
You should always make sure that you have the right health and safety qualifications – both for your own protection and others. This is never more important than if you are working in a high-risk environment such as a construction site. Fortunately, we are one of the leading providers of health and safety courses Oxford has to offer.
You can take your pick from many courses here at Harrington Safety, and they range from ½ a day to 5 days long. We also provide weekend, evening and remote learning on many of our courses. Being able to learn when and where it suits them gives people a much greater incentive to take a health and safety course, and we have made the whole process as easy as possible.
You can obtain CITB, PASMA and IPAF certifications from us. We also offer the HSA course, which will allow you to complete part of the training your need to gain your CSCS green card. All of our courses are led by experienced professionals. When it comes to explaining health and safety legislation and how to uphold best practices on site to delegate groups of all sizes, no one does it better than our team.
Everyone is welcome to take our health and safety training in Oxford, as we have courses that cater to a wide range of careers and levels of experience. All of the courses and qualifications we provide are recognised by the appropriate governing bodies, and if you are looking to re-qualify, we also offer a selection of refresher courses.
Health and Safety Training
Our Oxford health and safety training courses cover so much. You will be able to hone your knowledge regarding manual handling, asbestos awareness, abrasive wheels, petrol driven cut off saws and Cat and Genny. Not sure which is right for you? Reach out to our team, and they will be happy to point you in the right direction.
The majority of our health and safety courses are just ½ a day long, making them ideal for those with busy schedules. For those who have more time to spare, there is the option to combine two courses to give you a full day of training that’s perfectly suited to your needs.
IPAF
The International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) is the number one accrediting body and authority for mobile elevated work platforms. These are more commonly known as ‘MEWPs’ within the construction sector. Over 100,000 people are trained to use MEWPs safely and correctly every year – and some of those are the delegates who choose to learn through our Oxford training centre!
We’re an accredited IPAF training centre, and are able to provide delegates in Oxford with a number of different training options. You will be able to learn how to use MEWPs safely and effectively, and can choose from ½ day or 1-day courses. We provide courses for both operators and demonstrators, and would be happy to help you find the right one for you.
PASMA
The Prefabricated Access Supplier’s and Manufacturers’ Association (PASMA) is the nationally recognised accrediting body and authority for mobile access towers. We are a fully accredited PASMA training centre, so you will be able to choose from so many courses if you learn with us. Currently, you can take your pick from courses on towers for users, low level access, towers on stairs, towers with cantilevers, working at height, towers for managers and towers for bridging.
Not sure which course is most suitable for you? Require some more information before you sign up? Take a look at the relevant course pages or reach out to a member of our team for some additional guidance. We would be happy to help in any way that we can.
First Aid
Our first aid courses in Oxford cover everything you need to know to effectively deal with an emergency in the workplace. You will learn how to assess, triage and treat your colleagues and anyone else on site, along with how to keep yourself and others safe while doing so. In an environment such as a building site, this knowledge could save lives.
The course covers three categories: emergency first aid, first aid at work and mental health first aid. Mental health first aid may be new to some delegates, but studies have shown that it really is essential. You will be shown how to act quickly and compassionately in difficult situations, upholding the dignity of those affected by a mental health episode at work.
CITB Courses
The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) provides construction workers with the training they need to spot potential hazards on a construction site and then act accordingly. We are a leading provider of CITB courses in Oxford. Our courses are comprehensive, and cover everything from practical examples to the legislation in place to protect us in the workplace.
Our Oxford CITB courses can be taken online, so it doesn’t matter where you are or if it’s simply not convenient for you to travel to us right now. As long as you have a good Internet connection, a camera and microphone, you are all set! You can expect the same high level of tuition from us, no matter whether you are taking part in a CITB course in person or online.
You can take the test at the end of the course online too – this will be overseen by an independent invigilator. Upon successful completion of this test, delegates will receive their CITB certificate. This is valid for 5 years.
SMSTS Courses
The Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is for site managers, supervisors or anyone holding a senior position on a construction site – which makes it attractive to so many delegates in Oxford. The SMSTS course is 5 days long, so you will be able to cover so much. Your learning will take place through looking at case studies and taking part in group work and class discussions.
During your 5 days with us, you will learn all about CDM regulations, confined spaces, demolition, scaffolding, electricity, excavations and working at height – as well as all current legislation and regulations related to these. After passing the course, you will gain a CITB SMSTS certificate. This is valid for 5 years, and you can take a refresher course to ensure that you retain your certificate.
SSSTS Courses
The Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) course is a course specifically designed for site supervisors and managers. It will help you to maintain good health and safety on site, as well as providing you with information on relevant welfare and environmental issues. You will also cover current health and safety legislation, common site issues, occupational health and behavioural safety, and learning how to deliver effective toolbox talks.
The SSSTS course in Oxford takes 2 days to complete, and for those who can’t make it Monday-Friday there is an option for weekend training. You will take part in class discussions and group work, and give an individual or group presentation as part of the course too. You will then complete a multiple-choice questionnaire at the end of the course. If you do so successfully, you will then have a CITB SSSTS certificate! This will remain valid for 5 years.
CSCS Green Card Certification
You have to successfully complete two course modules to obtain a CSCS Green Card. We’re trusted providers of the HSA 1 day course, and this can be taken online and/or at the weekend. We’re passionate about making our courses accessible to a wide range of delegates, and being able to complete this when and where it suits you will make the whole learning process so much easier.
Once you have successfully completed our HSA course in Oxford, you will then need to go on and take a HSA course with a touch screen environmental test with another provider in the area. A CSCS Green Card is valid for 5 years, and it is often cited as a must-have by many employers in the construction sector. So it’s no wonder that the HSA 1 day course is one of the most popular that we offer here at Harrington Safety.
Work at Height Courses
Using scaffolding, ladders, platforms and powered access equipment can be risky. Knowing how to use them safely – as well as knowing how to carry out risk assessments and use PPE – will make carrying out your role so much easier. Our working at height training courses in Oxford are popular with delegates holding many positions in the construction and other related sectors.
We provide training on harness use, harness inspection, steps, ladders, harness and leading edge, as well as a course on how to identify potential hazards. This is essential for stopping accidents from occurring in the first place, as there are often warning signs that go unnoticed to the untrained eye.
All of the working at height courses that we offer are ½ day long and can be taken alone or combined with others. So you can create your very own personalised training programme! Training on site is an option too – so if there are multiple people in your team looking to train that could be an option for you.
Face Fit Testing
Respiratory protection equipment (commonly abbreviated to RPE) is essential safety gear for those working in dust or fume-heavy environments. It helps to protect both short and long-term respiratory health, so it’s vital that a face mask is correctly fitted. A face fit test checks for this, protecting individuals before they start work on site.
Our Oxford face fit testing begins with a taste test which involves delegates confirming they can taste a bitter solution. Once this part of the test has been completed, they will then be asked to complete a series of activities while wearing the mask to make sure that it doesn’t move. The test is deemed a success if a delegate is able to work their way through all the activities without tasting any more of the bitter solution. Once completed, it is then recommended that this test be repeated in 2 years’ time.
Why Choose Harrington Safety?
So, why choose us? We take pride in being able to offer delegates as much choice as possible, and offer a wide range of courses that cater to many different experience levels and careers. Whatever course you choose to take, you will leave with the knowledge and practical, applicable skills to carry out your role with the confidence that you are doing so safely.
What’s the secret to our continued success? Our course leaders. They all come from a construction background, and are able to bring years of experience to their tuition. They all know what it’s like to work in the industry, and will be able to share tips and advice that have worked for them over the years.
Combined with the fantastic resources and training materials that we provide, they inspire so many delegates to go on to achieve.
